John Edward Beyl had 3 daughters and 2 sons.  The oldest daughter was Margaret Louise.   Next came Viola Mildred.  The oldest son was Charles Edward.

Charles Edward Beyl was born on 15 May 1916, according to Indiana, Birth Certificates, 1907-1940.   He was born in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana at 1:50am to Edward Beyl and Edna M. Applegate. Edward was a 29 year old wood assembler. Edna was a housekeeper at 21 years old. Both had 3 children, all still alive at the time. Both were born in Indiana.

According to the 1920 Federal Census, Charles lived at 848 Prospect Street, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana with his parents and siblings. His dad, Edward Beyl, was 31 years old at the time. Edna, his mom, was 26. His sister, Margaret was 6, Mildred was 5. And Charles was 3 years and 8 months old. Edward was a Foreman at a Bakery at the time.

In 1930, John Edward lived with his wife Edna, and their children Margaret, Mildred, Charles, and Mary Lou at 1329 East Street, Center Township, Marion County, Indiana.  John was 43, Edna was 35, Margaret was 17, Mildred was 16, Charles was 13, and Mary Lou was 1 year old. John was a Dispenser at a Bakery Company. Margaret was a Saleslady at a Dry Goods Retail Store.

In 1935, Charles lived at 417 Parkway Av, Indianapolis, Indiana with his parents, Edward and Edna, as well as his siblings, Margaret L. and Viola M. He was 19 years old at the time.

Charles lived with Edward and Edna at 1230 S. East Street in 1936, per U.S. City Directories, 1822-1995. Margaret Louise also lived with them at the time.

In 1937, Charles lived at 1020 S. New Jersey Street, Indianapolis, Indiana with his parents, Edward and Edna.

At the time of the 1940 Federal Census, John and Edna lived at 1020 S. New Jersey Street, Center Township, Marion County, Indiana with their children Charles, Mary Lou, and Frederick. John Edward was 53 years old, Edna was 45, Charles was 23, Mary Lou was 11, and Frederick was 5 years old. John Edward was a Laborer in the Flood Prevention Industry. He made $453. Charles made $200 at school at NYA.

Per U.S. Public Records Index, 1950-1993, Volume 2, Charles lived at 8942 Ridgepointe CT, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46234 in 1940. His birth date is listed as 15 May 1916.  So it appears he moved out of his parents house that year.

According to U.S., World War II Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946, Charles enlisted into the National Guard on 17 January 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He enlisted as a Private in the Quartermaster Corps. He had completed grammar school and worked as a messenger, errand boy, or office boy. He was single without dependents, 69 inches tall and 133 pounds. His birth year is listed as 1916.

In 1943, Charles lived at 1020 S. New Jersey Street, Indianapolis, Indiana with his parents, Edward and Edna.

In 1951, Charles lived at 738 Union, Indianapolis, Indiana according to U.S. City Directories, 1822-1995. He was 35 years old at the time.

Death


The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2010 shows that Charles Edward Beyl enlisted into the military twice. He enlisted the first time on 17 January 1941 but was released 2 days later on 19 January 1941. The second time, he enlisted on 22 May 1942 and was released on 5 September 1942. His death date and social security number on this record match that of his Death record.

Per the U.S. Social Security Death Index, 1935-2014, Charles left this world at 2:05am on 18 July 1985 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. His social security number was 303-14-6311 and was issued before 1951. He died of metastatic Lung Cancer. No autopsy was performed. His birthdate is listed as 15 May 1916.

The U.S. Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007 has Charles’ parents listed as Edward Beyl and Edna M. Applegate. His social security number is the same on this document. According to Indiana, Death Certificates, 1899-2011, Charles was divorced. He was self-employed as a painter. When he passed, he was an inpatient at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. His address was listed at 8931 Ridgepointe Court.

Charles Edward is resting at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana, according to Find A Grave. His gravestone shows he was in the US Army in World War II. His birthdate is listed as 15 May 1916. He passed on 18 July 1985.  Check out his memorial at Find A Grave.
